| Notes: Anna Nancy is sometimes referred to as Anna and sometimes as Nancy.
The family explanation of this is that she was born Anna, but her father
never learned to speak English and he called her Nanny. This caused
everybody to think that her name was Nancy — so they called
her by that name and she was married with it. Anna Nancy's surname is given as Shaffer in Sources 616 and 754. However, Source 1061 gives Anna Nancy's surname as Schaffer, her father's surname as Shaefer, and her paternal grandfather's surname as Shafer. Thus, four different spellings of her family's surname have been documented. It appears that we will just have to live with these variations. Anna Nancy's first child, Rachel, apparently was born out of wedlock with an unknown father and was given the Anna Nancy's surname Schaffer. When Anna Nancy wed three years later she and daughter Rachel took on the surname Foust. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
