Mildred was generally referred to by her middle name Aileen. Her parents moved young Aileen and her siblings from Turtleford, Saskatchewan, to the Treherne area of Manitoba and then on to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. There in 1949 she met and married Bill. They remained in Portage for a few years, where Aileen worked at the bus depot. Bill and Aileen next moved to Winnipeg and later in 1959 bought a home at 470 London Street where they resided for most of their lives. Aileen worked at the Greyhound bus depot as a ticket agent and later became a waitress at various places, finally retiring as a waitress at the La Salle Hotel.

Aileen was a bright, strongwilled, somewhat cantankerous, and often opinionated person with a kind spot in her heart and a good sense of humor. On numerous occasions she took in people in need of help to live with her family until they got back on their feet.

Aileen lived at the Deer Lodge Centre during her last year.
