Notes:   The George and Rosa Gartman Paintner Family In the 1910 U.S. census, George and Rosa Paintner (the census reads Pantner) were living in Helene Twp., Griggs, North Dakota.  George, 42, born in Bavaria, Germany, had immigrated to the United States in 1885, and was a naturalized citizen.  He was a farmer.  Rosa, 32, had been born in Michigan of German parents.  The couple had been married 17 years, and Rosa had had twelve children, eleven of whom were still living.

The eleven children, all born in North Dakota, were Mary F., 16, Theresia E., 14, Joseph G., 13, Ludvig, 11, George, 9, Anton, 7, Robert, 5, John, 3, Fred, 2, and William, 9/12.  Herbert, twin to Robert, had been born in 1906 and died in 1907.

In the 1920 U.S. census, George, 50, and Rosa E., 42, were still farming in Helene Twp., Griggs.  Their two daughters had left the home.  Joseph G., 22, Ludwig J., 21, and George C., 19, were working on the family farm.  The other children were Antoni O., 17, Robert F., 14, Charly J., 13, John E. 12, Fridrick W., 11, Wilhelm M. 10, and now twins, Lorene P., 8 and Claranc P., 8.

Rosa died 16 Oct 1922, and in the 1930 U.S. census George, 61, was a widower.  Fred, 22, William, 20, and Clarence, 18, were working on the farm.  The household included Alice Holter Paintner, 20, the wife of Fred.  Also in the household was Gunda Holter, 42, a servant, and two children, Morris Holter, 8, and Floyd Holter, 6.  Gunda was Alice's mother, and the children were presumably her brothers.

George died 10 Mar 1944.  He is buried with his wife in the Saint Lawrence Cemetery, Jesse, Griggs, North Dakota.
