Notes: In the 1940 U.S. census, A.J. [Amos] Pouncey, 41, and his wife Mammie [Mamie] Pouncey, 41,
were living at 709 Blucher Street, San Antonio, Texas. Amos was employed as an auto mechanic, and had
earned $1820. working 52 weeks in 1939. Mamie was a homemaker. The family was renting their house
for $30. per year. Both Amos and Mamie had completed two years of high school.
The children at home were Lorene, 18, working as a librarian in the public library, and Joanna, 16, working
as a clerk in a department store. Lorinne had completed two years of high school, and Joanna one year.
In the 1941 Corpus Christie, Texas, City Directory, Amos J. Pouncey and his wife Mamie are listed at
709 Blucher Street, Corpus Christie. Amos was a mechanic for the Swinebroard Motor Co. Their
daughter Lorene is listed at the same address as a saleswoman for the McCrory Stores Corp.
In the 1944 Corpus Christie, Texas, City Directory, Amos J. Pouncey and his wife are listed at 705 Blucher,
Corpus Christie. Amos is a mechanic for the Gillespie Buick Co. Their daughter Lorene is listed as
a student. In the 1946 Corpus Christie, Texas, City Directory same address, their daughter Joanna
Sheets, an employee of the Nixon Coffee Shop is listed with her husband Warren L. Sheets, 1 USA.
The family moved to Southern California about 1947 or 1948. |
