Notes:  Mattie was born 22 Feb 1888 in Pennsylvania.  Her parents were Edgar L. Trantum and and Martha Aurelia Day.  According to family sources, her mother died in childbirth, and her father was unable to care for her.  She was raised by Lora Ann Day, her mother's sister, and Lora's husband John D. Walton.  She took the surname Walton.

In the 1900 U.S. census, Mattie, age 12, was living with her aunt, Laura H. Walton, in Columbus Twp., Warren, Pennsylvania.  Also in the household were Laura's daughter Bessie E. Curtis, her husband Eddie, and their two children.
In the 1910 U.S. census, Mattie, age 21, was living on Pine Street in Ritzville City, Adams County, Washington with her uncle, John D. Walton and aunt, Lora A Walton.  She had a much older brother, Fred D., who was working as a deputy county assessor.

Mattie married George Angus Olson on 1 Nov 1918 in Spokane, Spokane, Washington, when she was 30 years old.  She has been described as an "old maid teacher", and also as having been a barber.  She obtained two years of a college education.  What she did prior to marriage is unclear, but following, she was a housewife and mother.

In the 1920 U.S. census, Mattie, George and their newborn son Robert Walton were living at 40 Pine Street in Ritzville City with her now widowed aunt.  George was working as a laborer in a lumberyard.  They moved to California, where they had twin sons, George Wilbur and Frank Wilfred born 12 Aug 1924.

In the 1930 U.S. census, Mattie and George, and their three sons were living at 419 South Sixth Street, Alhambra, Los Angeles, California.  This was their life-long family residence.  George was a manufacturer of sash and doors.  In the 1940 U.S. census, only the twins were still living at home.

George died in September 1951, and in 1954 Mattie was living alone on Sixth Street.  By 1964, she had moved to 327 South 3rd Street, Alhambra, and was living next to one of her sons.  Mattie died 11 Jan 1972, and is buried with her husband at Live Oak Memorial Park, Monrovia, California.
