Notes: John Adams Holt was born 14 Jan 1913 in Panama City in the Panama Canal Zone. His parents were John M. Holt and Jimmie S. Adams. His sister Frances, who was a year older, had also been born in the Panama Canal Zone. His father was an engineer working on the canal. His family returned to the United States, and in the 1920 U.S. census they were living in El Paso, Texas. His father was a foreman for the Southern Pacific Railroad. A sister Jacqueline was born about 1925 in Texas. By the 1930 U.S. census, his family had moved to California, and were living in Berkeley. His father was listed as an inspector for the Southern Pacific Railroad.

John attended Sacramento Junior College, and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1935. He majored in Commerce-Finance and was a member of Theta Chi, Chapter MU. He enlisted in the U.S. Army as a private on 29 Mar 1942 at Fort McArthur, San Pedro, California. He was described as 5'7" tall, weighing 151 lbs.

In the 1940 U.S. census, John was still living with his family in Berkeley. He was a clerical worker for the California Relief Agency, and had earned $300. in the previous year.

John married Virginia Noble on 8 May 1948 in Oakland, Alameda County, California. They took up residence in Concord, California, where they started raising their four daughters. In the 1958 San Francisco City Directory John is listed as a special sales rep for the A.C. Horn Co., residence in Concord. The family moved to Whittier in Southern California. He and Virginia were divorced in Los Angeles County in Apr 1975.

John died 29 Mar 1991 in Humbolt County, California. His burial place is unknown.
