Notes:  William Haley was born 12 Aug 1807 in Cornwall, England.  According to family histories, he married Elizabeth Hamm on 23 Aug 1828 in Lanreath, Cornwall, England.  They had nine children.  In 1851 the family immigrated to Canada, settling first in Bowmanville, Darlington Twp., Durham County, Ontario.

In the 1861 Canada census, William and Elizabeth were living in a 1 story log house on Lot 29 of the EMR (East Mitchell Road) Concession, Fullarton Twp., Perth, Ontario.  The three children living at home were Isaac, 20, a laborer, Abraham, 17, and Richard, 11.  Their religion was marked Bible Christian.

The 1861 Agricultural census reported that William had 97 acres, which included 55 acres under cultivation (45 acres of crops, 10 acres of pasture), 1 acre of orchard or garden, and 42 acres of weed or wild.  Cash value of the farm was $2,900. and cash value of the farm machinery was $100.

In the 1871 Canada census, William and Elizabeth were living alone in Nissouri West, Middlesex East, Ontario.  William was listed as a retired farmer, their religion as Church of England.

William and Elizabeth moved to Kansas.  On 8 Jan 1872, William applied for U.S. citizenship, but never completed the process.

A short biography of their son Abraham Haley, of Kansas, describes the family as follows:  "John, a resident of Bennington, ---, Wm. who died in Canada, Maria Frise, a resident of Michigan, James who died at Delphos, Kans., Isaac who passed away in Logan township in 1899, and was a very prominent man in his locality, Abraham, the subject of this review, Richard, who was formerly a resident of Indian territory and his death occurred in Kansas City, Mo. in July, 1901, Nicholas, who was drowned at the age of 18 years, and Elizabeth who died when young when 8 years of age." In the 1875 Kansas State census, William and Elizabeth were living in Logan Twp., Ottawa, Kansas.  Their Post Office was Pipe Creek.  They are enumerated adjacent to the households of their three sons, Isaac, Abraham, and Richard.

William died 1 Oct 1877.  According to her headstone, Elizabeth died 20 Oct 1877.  Both are buried in the Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis, Kansas.
