Notes:  Ethel LaPlant was born 22 May 1898 in Romness Twp., Griggs, North Dakota.  She was the third child of William LaPlant and Mary Rose Haley.  Her brother Louis was born in Dec 1893 in Kansas, and the family had moved to North Dakota in the fall of 1895.  Her sister Neva was born in Feb 1896, and brother William (Bruce) in Jun 1900.
In the 1900 U.S. census, Ethel was living with her parents and siblings in Romness Twp., Griggs, North Dakota.  Also living with the family was her maternal aunt, Nettie Haley, and her paternal uncle, George LaPlant.  Her father William was a farmer, and her uncle George a farm laborer.

About 1905, the family moved to Tyrol Twp., Griggs, where they were enumerated in the 1910 U.S. census.  Her father William was a grain farmer, farming the W½ of Sec. 15, Tyrol Twp., Griggs.  Her brother Louis was working as a farmer on the family farm.

In the 1915 North Dakota State census, Neva was no longer listed with the family, as she had just married and moved out.  In the 1920 U.S. census, the household included William, Mary, Louis, Ethel, and Bruce.

According to family notes, Edith married Arthur Theo Olson about 1923.  In the 1925 North Dakota State census, they were living in the village of Tagus, Mountrail, North Dakota.  In the 1930 U.S. census, they were living in the village of Van Hook, Mountrail County.  Arthur was a bank cashier.  They were caring for two boys, identified as "lodgers, wards".  These were Amber, 7, in school, and William R., 1.

In the 1940 U.S. census, Arthur and Ethel were living in the village of Sanish, Mountrail County.  Arthur was a salesman, retail implements.  Billy Rae, 11, was now identified as their son (adopted).  They were renting their house for $16. monthly, and had been living in the same house in 1935.

Arthur died 21 Dec 1955 in a car accident in McKenzie County, North Dakota.  In 1956, when Ethel applied for a veteran's headstone for Arthur's gravesite, she was living in the town of Parshall, Mountrail.  At some point in time, she moved to Griggs County.  She died 22 May 1993 (her birthday), at the age of 95.  She is buried with her husband in the Van Hook Cemetery, New Town, Mountrail, North Dakota.
