Notes:  Delna Stewart was born 12 Feb 1914 in Hinckley, Millard, Utah.  She was the first of eleven children of George Lyle Stewart and Clara May Walker.  Her father George was a farmer.  Her sister Norma was born in Oct 1915.  According to her own testimony and and other family sources, her mother Clara May became ill with "tuberculosis of the bone"; nevertherless her brother Walker Duncan was born in May 1918, and brother George Lyle, Jr., in Nov 1919.

In the 1920 U.S. census, Delna was living with her family in Hinckley, Millard, Utah.  The family owned their residence with a mortgage.  Her father George was a farmer, doing general farming.  The children were Delna, 5, Norma, 4, Walker D., 1, and George L., 2 months.  Her sister Florence was born in Nov 1921; then came sister Mary; her sister Melba was born in Aug 1925; brother Reed Murdoch in Sep 1927; and sister Joy in Jan 1930.

In the 1930 U.S. census, Delna was living with her family on Side Street N.S. in Hinckley, Millard, Utah.  The family owned their farm, and her father George was a general farmer.  The children were Delna, 16, Norma, 14, Walker D., 11, George L., 9, Florence, 8, Mary, 6, Melba Jean, 4, Reid M., 2, and Joy, 3 months.  All but the youngest three children attended school.  Her brother Duane Walker was born in Nov 1932, her brother Walker Duncan died in 1932, and her brother Carl Don was born in May 1937.

Delna attended the Branch Agricultural College (now the Southern Utah University) in Cedar City, Utah, graduating on 18 May 1934.  She received her teaching certificate from the State of Utah in July 1934.  She taught second grade in Cedar City during the 1934 - 1935 school year.

Delna Stewart, 21, married Devon Arthur, 24, on 8 May 1935 in Parowan, Iron, Utah.  They were later sealed in the St. George LDS Temple on August 11, 1984.  They made their home in Cedar City where they raised their two daughters.

In the 1940 U.S. census, Delna and her husband Dee were living on North 1st East, Cedar City, Iron, Utah  They were renting their residence for $23. per month.  Dee was a grocery clerk in a retail grocery store.  They had a daughter, Carol Lee, 4 years.

In July 1940, Delna's husband Dee opened a new grocery store on the corner of Second West and Center streets, Cedar Cify, Utah.  The store was called "The Center", and Dee helped her husband run it for 27 years.  Dee was also active in the community, including the Jaycee-Ettes, and the Elks Ladies, serving as president of the latter organization in 1940.  She was also a leader in her daughters' 4-H Club.

Delna returned to college, attending CSU (SUU) and graduating in 1964.  She and her husband moved to Southern California where she taught elementary school for 13 years.  They moved back to Cedar City in 1993.

Delna died 22 Dec 1994 in St. George, Washington, Utah.  Funeral services were held 28 Dec 1994 at the Southern Utah Mortuary, Cedar City.  She was buried in the Cedar City Cemetery, Cedar City, Iron, Utah.
