Notes: Helen was born about 1830 in South Leith, Midlothian, Scotland. She married John Noble about 1848. In 1851, she and John were living in South Leith at 31 Water Lane. They had two sons, James, age 2, and John, age 5 months. The boys must have died young, because in 1861 they were not listed in the census. In that year, the family was still living in South Leith, at 2 Glover Street. They had four children - Ellen, age 7, Andrew, age 5, Alexander, age 3, and Janet, age 1.

By 1871, Helen's husband John must have died, because she is listed with her four then living children. They were living at 3 Catherine Street, in the civil parish of Edinburgh St Cuthberts, Midlothian. Two boarders were living with them.

In the 1851 census, Helen's name was recorded as Ellen, in 1861 as Helen, and in 1871 as Hellen. I have compromised on Helen.
