Notes: According to Social Security and California death records, Ruby Adele was born 12 Jun 1908. According to the California Death record, she was born in Florida, however, the 1930 U.S. census gives her birthplace as Tennessee. Her parents were John C. Demell and Kittie VanBuren. Her surname is spelled variously as De Mell, Demell, and Demelle.

In the 1910 U.S. census, John C. Demell, 67, and his wife Kittie Demell, 37, were living on Upper Eklton Road, Athens, Limestone, Alabama. They owned the farm and John was farming on his own account. They had four adopted children, all born in the United States. These were Henry, 12, working on the home farm, Grace, 10, Erle, 6, and Ruby, 2. The oldest two attended school. Also in the household was Dobina Montgomery, 59, a widow and John's sister.

The family is not found in the 1920 U.S. census records.

Ruby married Henry Raymond Fishback on 29 May 1925 in Alhambra, Los Angeles, California. Their son Lee was born in 1926.

In the 1930 U.S. census, Ruby and Henry were living at 2032 W. 80th Street, Los Angeles. Ruby was a stenographer for a mail order business. Henry was a millwright for a lumber company.

By 1934, the family had moved to Alhambra, living in a succession of houses in the southern part of the city. Ruby was registered to vote as a Democrat. Henry died in 1972. Ruby died 16 Aug 1981, her last residence being in Alhambra. She is buried with her husband in the San Gabriel Cemetery, San Gabriel, California.
