Notes:  James B. McElhaney was born 21 Dec 1906 in Illinois.  His parents were Myron and Elizabeth McElhaney, and he had a brother John Everet, one year older.  In the 1910 U.S. census, the family was living in Martinsville, Clark County.  His father was a bookkeeper for an oil farm.  The family moved to Oklahoma, and in the 1920 U.S. census they were living in Jennings, Pawnee County.  His father had evidently died, and his mother was employed as a chemist, probably in the oil industry.

James made his way to California, where he married Adel Fishback sometime between 1930 and 1940.  From 1940 through 1954, the couple is listed in the voter registration records living at 3465 Downing Street, Glendale, California.  James was a utility man and Adel was a telephone operator.  Both were registered as Democrats.  No children can be found for this marriage.  They later moved to Northern California.  James died 4 Nov 1972 in Nevada County.  When Adel died in 1992, her last residence was Cedar Ridge, Nevada County.  Their burial place is unknown.
