Notes:  Daurthy Louise Horst was born 2 Apr 1920 in Sanger, Denton, Texas.  Her parents were Emil Horst and Verdie Lee Young.  She was the youngest of eight children.  Her siblings were Arthur Emil, born in 1903,, Leroy, in 1906, Edwin Emil, 1908, Julian Lawrence, 1911, H.M. [Herbert], 1913, Frances Florene, 1915, and Verdie Mae, 1918.

In the 1930 U.S. census, Daurthy's family was living North of Street No. 9, in Sanger.  Her father Emil was the proprietor of a meat market.  They were renting their house for $15. per month, and had a radio set.  The children at home were Julian L., 18, H.M., 16, Francis F., 14, Verdie M., 11, and Daurthy L., 9 years.  Julian was an apprentice meat cutter, and the rest of the children were in school.  Daurthy's grandfather Jacob Horst, 69, was living in the household.

By the 1940 U.S. census*, Sanger, all of Daurthy's siblings had gone their separate ways.  Only Daurthy, 20, was living with her parents.  She had completed four years of high school.  Her father was a butcher in a meat market.  In 1942 when he registered for the World War II draft he was the owner of the City Market.

According to family records, Daurthy married Francis Clemons Hinton on 2 May 1942 in Midland, Midland, Texas.  During the first three years of their marriage, Francis was in the U.S. Army Air Force.  They had at least one child.  In 1983 and 1996, their address of record was 10461 Argonaut Lane, Jackson, California.  At some point in time they were also listed at 49 Showers Drive, Mountain View, California, and at 1757 Hamburg Drive, Bismarck, North Dakota.

Daurthy died 2 Apr 2001 in Sacramento, Sacramento, California.  Social Security records list her last residence as Jackson, Amador, California.  An obituary was published in an Amador newspaper.  She is buried in the Sanger Cemetery, Sanger, Denton, Texas.

*In the 1940 U.S. census, the family is listed on one of the back pages, as if they were missed in the main census survey.  Their names as indexed are Edward Harsh, Elone Harsh, and Dorothy Harsh.
