Notes:  Karl Alma Peterson was born 13 Jul 1901 in Hinckley, Millard, Utah.  He was the first of nine children of Niels Alma Peterson and Annie Sophia Walker.  His sister Verda was born in 1904 in Hinckley.
The family moved to Eureka, Juab, Utah, where his father Niels was a stationery engineer for the mines.  His brother Laurence was born in 1905 and brother Francis Leon in 1907 in Eureka.  In the 1910 U.S. census, his family was living in a rented house at 344 Fourth North, Salt Lake City Ward 3, Salt Lake, Utah.  His father Niels was a carpenter, doing odd jobs.  The children were Carl A., 8, Verda, 6, Laurence, 4, and Leone, 2.

Four more of his siblings were born in Eureka.  These were Clara, born in 1910, Owen Rumel in 1912, Zella in 1915, and Vernon LeRoy in 1917.

In late 1918, the Peterson family moved to Provo, Utah, Utah.  In the 1920 U.S. census, the family was living at 358 4th Street South, Provo Ward 2.  They owned their house with a mortgage, and his father Niels was an engineer for the Union Pacific railroad.  The children were Karl, 18, Verda, 16, Laurence, 14, Leone, 12, Clara, 9, Owen, 7, Zella, 5, and Vernon, 2.  Karl's last sister Elayne was born in Provo.

Karl, 21, married Ethel Ruth Startup, 18, on 30 Aug 1922 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah.  At the time of their marriage, Karl was a resident of Las Vegas, Clark, Nevada.  Their daughter Rosalee was born 13 Jun 1923, and son Edwin Karl was born 15 Feb 1927.

In the 1930 U.S. census, Karl and Ethel were living at 538 S. Sixth West, Provo, Utah, Utah.  They were renting their house for $15. per month, and had a radio set.  Karl was a salesman for a credit system.  In the 1929 Provo, Utah, City Directory Karl was described as a salesman for Startup's, which was the candy business of his wife's family.  Ethel was the manager of the Quick Service Grocery.  Their two children were Rosa Lee, 6, who attended school, and Edwin, 3.  Their son Richard Startup was born 21 Jul 1933.

In the 1935 Provo, Utah, City Directory Ethel and Karl are listed at 255 E. 5th North, Provo.  Karl is listed as a candy jobber.  The family moved to Price, Utah, where their son James Max was born 19 Feb 1939.

In the 1940 U.S. census, Karl and Ethel were living at 207 First East, Price, Carbon, Utah.  They were renting their house for $35. per month.  Karl had completed four years of high school.  Their children were Rosalee, 16, two years of high school; Edwin K., 13, 6th grade; Richard S., 6, and James M., 1.

Karl and his wife founded the Peterson Candy Company, later Peterson Distribution Co., located in Price, expanding into Carbon, Emery, Duchesne and Uintah Counties.  He was the executive director of the Carbon County senior citizens program for eight years, a member of the Utah State Board of Aging, and was named Utah's Mr. Rural Senior Citizen and Carbon County's Mr. Senior Citizen.  He was active in the Democratic Party, and served as precinct chairman.  He was active in the LDS Church and served as counselor to two bishops of Price 3rd LDS Ward.

Karl died 11 Jan 1981 in the Carbon Nursing Home, Price, Carbon, Utah.  Cause of death was cardio- respiratory failure due to hypovolemic shock and internal bleeding.  Funeral services were held 15 Jan 1981 at the Price Sixth Ward Chapel.  He is buried in the Price City Cemetery, Price, Utah.
