Notes:  Fred Ross Smith III was born 9 Jan 1943 in Demming, Luna, New Mexico.  He was the oldest of three sons of Fred Ross Smith, Jr. and Mable Catherine Peterson.

In the 1930 U.S. census, Fred was living with his family at 5104 Washington Street, Denver, Denver, Colorado.  His father, Fred Jr., was a mill wright for the Morse Brothers Machinery & Supply Co.  They were renting their residence for $20. per month.  The children were Fred R., 6, and his brother Richard R., 3, born in Colorado.

In the 1940 U.S. census, Fred was living with his family at 1444 Tamarac, Denver, Denver, Colorado.  They owned their residence, valued at $3,000.  His father Fred, Jr., was now a foreman for the Morse Brothers Machinery & Supply Co.    The children were Fred, 16, who had completed one year of high school, Richard, 13, 6th grade completed, and Charles, 9, 3rd grade completed.

In the U.S. World War II Draft Cards for Young Men, Fred Ross Smith [III] was a Division Supt. for Western Electric Co. in Salt Lake City, Utah.  He was described a being 158 lbs., 5'11", with a light complexion, blue eyes and blond hair.  Fred enlisted in the Merchant Marine and served during World War II from 8 Oct 1943 to 15 Aug 1945.

According to family records, Fred married Florence Stewart on 9 Jan 1943 in Pueblo, Pueblo, Colorado.  They had a family of three children.

By 1963 or earlier Fred and Florence were living in Lompoc, Santa Barbara, California.  Fred was an electrical engineer at the nearby Vandenberg Air Force Base; Florence was a secretary for the Lompoc Record.  They made their residence at 304 N. 6th Street, Lompoc, California.

Fred Ross Smith III died 2 Aug 1991 in Santa Barbara County, California and is buried in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery, Lompoc, California.
