Notes:  Johannes Staeheli and Elizabeth Thalmann were married 3 Feb 1824 in Amriswil, Thurgau, Switzerland.  Their children included Johannes Georg, born 6 Feb 1825, Anna Barbara, born 3 Jun 1826, Susanna, born 27 Jan 1829, Anna Elisabetha, born 11 Feb 1831, and Anna Cathrina, born 3 Sep 1833.  Some family sources name others, but these are the only ones who appear in the Switzerland Baptism Records, and who are documented in later stages of their lives.

Johann Georg married Sophia Barbara Haberli on 17 Jul 1849.  Anna Barbara married Johannes Sebastian Strasser on 29 Nov 1853.  About 1856, a local missionary of the Church of Later-Day Saints began to teach the family about the Mormon church.  Elisabetha was baptized 30 Nov 1856, followed by Elizabeth on 21 Dec 1856.  Johannes himself was not baptized until 23 Jan 1859, and son Johannes Georg and his wife were baptized 6 Jun 1859.

The missionaries encouraged the newly converted to emmigrate to Utah, where the Mormons were being assembled.  Thus, on 15 Mar 1860, Johannes and Elizabeth, along with their daughter Susanna, and her son John Bianchi, daughter Elisabetha, granddaughter Wilhelmina Staheli (daughter of son Johannes George), and grandson Sebastian Strasser (son of daughter Anna Barbara), left their home in Switzerland for America.  Their son Johannes Georg (called George in America) and his family followed the next year.

Johannes (called John in America) and the family sailed from Liverpool, England on the Underwriter on 30 Mar 1860, arriving in New York on 1 May 1860.  From there, they traveled by train and riverboat to Florence, Nebraska, now called Onaha.  They joined the James Darling Ross Company, which consisted on 249 individuals and 36 wagons.  The company departed 14 Jun 1860 and arrived 3 Sep 1860 in the Salt Lake Valley.  Their they waited until 1861 for the larger group from Switzerland to arrive.

Susanna married Henry Huff on 10 Oct 1861, and Elizabetha married Heinrich Kuhn on 18 Oct 1861, both in Salt Lake City.  In October 1861, John and his wife, and George and his wife and family, were part of the Swiss Company called to settle in Dixie, the Southern part of Utah.  The Swiss Company arrive in Santa Clara in late November 1861.

John died 12 Dec 1862, and his wife Elizabeth died 4 Dec 1870.  Both are buried in the Santa Clara City Cemetery, Santa Clara, Utah.
