"No Troubles On This Rail Line". Newspaper photograph, Sunday, May 26, 1946, from
Olson/Noble memorabilia.
Photograph of locomotive and coach with windmill behind it; caption reads as follows:
"IT'S ALL IN THE FAMILY--This railroad, owned and operated by the
Ward W. Kimball family on 2½ acres at their home,
1616 Ardendale Road, San Gabriel, has never been bothered
with labor or management problems. Mr. Kimball, an animator
with Walt Disney Studios, bought the engine and coach eight years ago. The locomotive,
built in 1881, came from the Nevada Central Railroad, and the 1878 coach from the Carson and
Colorado Railway. The Kimballs plan to install another 100 feet of track soon.
They recently purchased a caboose and boxcar from the Pacific Coast Railroad at San Luis
Obispo. Chief reason for no troubles on the line, Mr. Kimball said, is because the
"executive branch" includes Kimball;
wife Betty; daughter, Kelly, 6; son, Johnny, 5, and Chloe,
two weeks, awaits first ride.
