"Polygamy Is Outdone by Utah Folk"
(By Associated Press Leased Wire)
"SALT LAKE CITY, March 16. - Through official church announcements of the excommunication and disfellowshipping of several men and women members of the Mormon Church, it became known today that a colony of upwards of 50 men and women located miles from a railroad in eastern Juab County have been practicing a number of doctrines, among them one called "the doctrine of wife sacrifice" under which it is said that in a number of instances husbands have taken the wives of other members of the colony and vice versa.
The founder and leader of the colony is Moses S. Gudmundson, violinist and former professor of music at the Brigham Young University, a Mormon institution, who began the establishment of the new movement on the strength of "revelations" which he said he had received.
The persons excommunicated as a result of two church trials are Mr. Gudmundson, J. Elvan Houtz, David Whyte, Gerald H. Lowry and J. Leo Hafen.  Those disfellowshipped are Mrs. May Metcalf Houtz, Mrs. Delia Hafen Whyte, Mrs. Minerva B. Weight, Mrs. Lucy Warren Metcalf, Ralph B. Weight, Thomas D. Nesbet and Levi G. Metcalf, Jr."
