Notes: When Sophia's mother died, Sophie and several of her siblings were sent out to work for other families as servants. Thus, in 1901 Sophie at age 18 worked as a servant for the William H. Dare family at South Molton, Devon, England.

On 3 Aug 1912 Sophie arrived in Quebec, Canada, after sailing from Liverpool, England, on the S.S. Corsican. She was 30 years old, single, and on her way to Sarnia.

Fifty-four days later, on 26 Sep 1912, Sophie married Joseph Nickels in Sarnia. This marriage lasted for 22 years and six months until Sophie passed on.
