Notes: In the 1940 U.S. census, Virgil McKain, 32, and his wife, Esther, 34, both born in
Kansas, were living in Sheridan Twp., Ottawa, Kansas. Virgil was a farmer,
renting the same farm as in 1935, for $10. a month. He had completed
eighth grade, was working on his own account, having worked 24 weeks in 1939, with an
income of $600. He had other sources of income. Esther had completed
four years of high school. They had a son, Duane, age 3, born in Kansas.
The family reports that they made their home in Delphos, Ottawa, Kansas. |
