Notes:  John Beach was one of three emigrant brothers who came from England to New Haven with the Rev. Peter Prudden in 1638, the other two being Richard and and Thomas.  Historians give John's birth date as 1620 or 1623, some going so far as to state 3 Jun 1623.  He has been given the title of John Beach, "The Proprietor of Wallingford" and "The Pilgrim".  He is first mentioned in the official records of the Colony and Plantation of New Haven, Connecticut, on 4 January 1643.  He took the oath of fidelty on 1 July 1643.

The first home of John Beach in New Haven was at the corner of Grove and Whitney Streets.  He sold this in 1652.  John Beach married Mary in 1652, in Stratford.  Her last name was probably Staples.  From this marriage 10 children were born.  Other than his marriage, John does not appear until 1660 in Stratford, Connecticut records, when he bought a house and lot, extending from (Hard's) corner, Main Street to Elm Street.

John Beach was also one of the original proprietors of Wallingford, but he probably did not reside there for any length of time, returning to Stratford.  His son Thomas later lived in Wallingford.

John Beach is said to have given civilian service at the "Lower Garrison" in King Philip's War also known as the first Indian War.  King Philip's War (1675–1676) was a devastating armed conflict between English Puritan colonists and a confederation of Native American tribes in southern New England.  A descendant of his son Nathaniel, applied for membership in the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) in 1944.

Find A Cemetery gives biographical sources and gives a birth date of 3 Jun 1623, England, and death date of 16 Jun 1677, Stratford, Fairfield, Connecticut.  His burial place is unknown.
