Notes: Walter was six years old when his mother died in 1892. He moved to Napa from Iowa with his father and sisters in 1905.

Walter was 23 years old when he married Alma in 1909. Six months later, Alma and he were living on rented property on Orchard Street in Napa and maintaining a home farm there.

When Walter registered for the draft in 1917 he was described as tall and slender with blue eyes and light hair. Still a farmer, he said he was farming for self.

By 1930 Walter had bought and was operating a fruit ranch on the Old Sonoma Road in Napa. He continued farming there, concentrating on prunes, until he had an accident and retired in 1950. The accident left one ankle severely bowed and made walking difficult for him.

Thereafter Walter and Alma lived in a new cinder block house at 211 Casswall Street near the Old Sonoma Road. Walter passed on at the age of 78 years and five months.
