Notes:  Bethel was born in Napa, California.  The first photograph at the right shows Bethel with her parents in late 1913.  She then spent her early years (age 2 to 9) in Alberta, Canada.  See the second and third photos at the right. Bethel returned to Napa with her family in 1920.  The photo at the left shows her in about 1926 with her sister and mother, respectively. Bethel briefly lived in Berkeley, California, in 1930 with her new husband.  Later, in 1938, she and her husband were registered as Republican voters in Napa. During World War II Bethel was a member of the WAVES. In 1972 to 1979, while Nora Hancock was in Hy-Lond Convalescent Hospital, Bethel would take Nora out on Sundays — and in later years nearly always took Bee Lacaze out for a ride on Sundays. Bethel was very active in her senior years, travelled all over the world, and drove her car right up to her death in 1998 at age 87.
