Notes:  *Birth year errors!  The Registrations of Births gave Art's birthdate as 9 Jun 1884, and his headstone gives his birth year as 1888.  However, Art was alive long before those years!  Correct sources and years are (1) the 1891 Canada Census which records his age at 10, (2) the 1901 Canada Census which records his birth year as 1880 and his age as 20, and (3) his military Attestation Papers in which Art declared that his birthdate was 9 Jun 1880.  Based upon these three sources, as well as the well-documented birth sequence of the six Hodgson children, I conclude that Art's correct birth year was 1880. Art spent his early years on his parents' farm in Bosanquet, Ontario. In early 1916 Art was single and living in Cadillac, Saskatchewan.  On 21 Mar 1916 he enlisted in the Army and the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) in WWI.  As with all recruits, Art swore allegiance to His Majesty King George the Fifth. In 1935, when his mother Caroline died, Art was living in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Art passed away in 1942 and was buried at Mount Pleasant Burial Park's Block 75.
