| Notes: *Middle name conflict: John used the name suffix Sr after
the birth of the birth of his second son John Doherty Ritchie.
This suggests that John Sr had the same middle name as his son; however, no
instances could be found of John Sr identifying himself as either
John D. Ritchie Sr or John Doherty Ritchie Sr. John Sr and his son John Doherty Ritchie were amoung the original owners and founders of Liberty, the county seat of Clay County, Missouri. They owned numerous land sites — including land around the town square — and were original Platte-Purchase land owners. John Sr and John Doherty also purchased property on the Fishing River (Missouri City) in Clay County. On 14 May 1825 John and his wife sold land in Clay County (click for details). On 23 Sep 1845 John signed his Last Will and Testament. Five days later, on 28 Sep 1845, John passed on — two weeks short of his 70th birthday. On 8 Oct 1845 John's will was filed with the Buchanan County, Missouri, clerk (click for details). On 1 May 1848, William H. Ritchie, the administrator of John's estate sold John's 80 acres, house, and stables for $216.00 and had the deed for them filed on 5 Jun 1848 with the Buchanan County clerk (click for details). | ||||||||||||||||||||||
