| Notes: *Birth year conflict! Five U.S. Censuses report five different
years of Matilda's birth: Census of 1900=birth in 1879, 1910=1882, 1920=1887, 1930=1888, 1940=1886 Only one year can be the correct year of Matilda's birth. The two earlier years (1879 and 1882) are more contemporary and thus more likely correct. To determine the most likely year of Matilda's birth I computed Matilda's mother Susan's age at the five alternative birth years: Susan's age was 41 @ 1879, 45 @ 1882, 49 @ 1886, 50 @ 1887, 51 @ 1888 Matilda's mother Susan possibly gave birth when she was 41 or even 45, but for her to give birth at age 49, 50, or 51 would have been extremely rare, beyond the normal child bearing age in the 1800s, and before today's fertility procedures. Therefore Matilda's 1886, 1887, or 1888 birth year is almost certainly wrong! Also, the 1900 Census shows that Matilda was 2 years older than sister Mamie, who was born in Feb 1881.
