Wilfred Leslie Baldwin Notes:  Wilfred Leslie Baldwin was born 21 Dec 1895 in Cedar Grove, Verona Twp., Essex, New Jersey, the son of Daniel Webster Baldwin and Frances Lydia Pettit.  He grew up with his grandparents, Daniel and Evelena Baldwin.  In the 1900 U.S. census, they were living in Verona, Essex.  Wilfred is seen at left in 1904.  In the 1910 U.S. census, they were living in Caldwell, Essex.  His younger sister, Evelyn Mae lived with his parents.
Wildred L. Baldwin On 5 Jun 1917 when Wilfred registered for the draft, he was living with, or next door, to his parents at 228 A Rector Street, Perth Amboy, Middlesex, New Jersey.  He was the chief clerk for a steel company which was making steel for the government.  He was described as being of medium height and build, with brown eyes and red hair.  In 1942, he was described as 5'8", weighing 145 pounds.  During World War I, Wilfred served as Quartermaster Clerk on two different Army transports.  He sailed between Neport News, Virginia, and France, crossing the Atlantic five times.  The photograph of Wilfred at left is inscribed La Lafont, 75.Rue Ste.Catherine, Bordeaux.

In the 1920 U.S. census, Wilfred was a lodger, living at 123 St. Marks Avenue, Brooklyn, New York.  His father, Leslie G. Baldwin was also a lodger in the boarding house.  They both were listed as being salesmen for a brokerage.  There were five other male lodgers.  In 1922, Wilfred was a non-resident member of the First Presbyterian Church of Perth Amboy, living at the St. Marks Avenue address.

On 31 Jan 1922, Wilfred married Florence L. Stevenson in Erie, Erie, Pennsylvania.  She may have been known as Elsie.  It is unknown how the marriage ended.  In the 1930 U.S. census, Wilfred was living with his mother Frances, at 301 East 5th Street, Plainfield, Union, New Jersey.  Wilfred was a traveling salesman for a traffic bureau.

On 2 Mar 1935, Wilfred married Mamie Alice Everly.  In 1937, they were living at 568 Hamilton, Rahway, New Jersey.  His mother Frances was living with them.  They divorced in 1938, but remarried 12 years later on 30 Sep 1950.

Wilfred had various jobs and interests throughout his life.  On 26 Apr 1942, when he registered for the World War II draft, he owned the Acme Baldwin Fire Protection Company.  This was then being run from the home he had shared as early as the 1940 U.S. census with his mother, Frances, at 599 W. Scott Avenue, Rahway, Union, New Jersey.  In later years the company was located in Westfield.  At one time he was the City Clerk of Rahway.  He was a member of the Rifle Club, the Mineral Club, and the YMCA.

In 1961, Wilfred and Alice retired to Prescott, Yavapai, Arizona.  He passed away at the age of 96 on 21 Mar 1991.  He was buried in the Mountain View Cemetery, Prescott.  A Memorial Service was held 2 Apr 1991 in the Prescott Presbyterian Church in America, of which he was a member.
