Notes:  John Arthur Miller was born 18 Jul 1933 in Perth Amboy, Middlesex, New Jersey.  He was the second son of Hans Johansen Miller and Helen Sokolinski.  His brother Harold Alexander had been born in Aug 1923.  The family reports that his mother Helen was a school teacher; and father Hans was a chemist, and then Superintendent at the Chesebrough Mfg. Co., a vasaline manufacturer.  By 1935 the family was living at 159 Kearny Avenue, Perth Amboy.

In the 1940 U.S.census, John A., 6, was living with his family at 159 Kearny Ave,, Perth Amboy, Middlesex, New Jersey.  They owned their house with a value of $11,000.  His father Hans was a chemist at the vaseline works.  The children were Harold, 16, who had completed 3 years of high school, and John A., 6, who had completed one year of school.

John Arthur was known by his nickname "Art", and in college years and thereafter went by the name J. Arthur Miller.  He attended Perth Amboy High School where he was President of the Student Council and an Honor Student.  He attended Amherst College, Amherst, Massachusetts, graduating 13 Jun 1954 with a B.A. cum laude in both Fine Arts and English.

J. Arthur Miller married Patricia M. Gadek on 14 Jun 1954 (the day after his graduation) at Amherst, Hampshire, Massachusetts.  Together they raised two sons, Curtis Hans and Nelson Pierce.

J. Arthur went on to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston, Massachusetts, graduating in 1958 with a Masters in Architecture, with high honors.

His career as an architect led him from Massachusetts to Florida to Michigan to South Carolina, to California and back to Michigan.  He worked for other firms, had his own firm, was a consultant, a professor, and an expert witness.  See his Résumé for additional information on his career.

J. Arthur Miller, 79, passed away 3 Jan 2013 in Spring Lake, Ottawa, Michigan.  He had been a resident of the Heartwood Lodge nursing facility.  His burial place is unknown.
