Notes: Clifford Edwin Ferrell was born 18 Jul 1914 in Los Angeles County, California, probably in
Alhambra. He was the second son of Thomas J. Ferrell and Mabel Olson. His
older brother Frederick was born in 1910. In 1915, the family was living at
126 East McLean, Alhambra. His father was the proprietor of Ferrell's Shoe Shop,
repairing shoes. In 1918, the family was living at 316 North 4th Street,
Alhambra.| In 1920, Clifford's family was living with his maternal grandparents, Hans and Mary Olson,
at 336 N. Wilson Avenue, Alhambra. By 1923, the family was finally living in their
own home at 121 S. Granada Avenue, Alhambra, which had been purchased for them by
Mary Olson. His father, who tried his hand in
insurance and later in real estate, was not a very good businessman. In 1930,
Clifford was working as a truck driver for a lumberyard, presumably the Olson Lumber
Company owned by his Uncle Frank Olson. Clifford's
mother Mabel died in 1934. | In 1936, Clifford was still living with his father and younger brother. By 1938, he had moved to 1906 Escarpa Drive, Los Angeles, close to Occidental College. He graduated from Occidental in 1939 with a degree in Economics. On 2 Sep 1939, he married Maude Fifer. In 1940, according to the voter registration records, he was living at 3240 Buchanan Street, in the Highland Park area of Los Angeles, working as a construction foreman. Clifford worked most of his life for the North American Aviation Co. in El Segundo. Hebegan as a scheduler in 1942, and retiried in 1971 as head of contract pricing and negotiations. aerospace engineer, and later headed a division that negotiated contracts with the According to voter registration records, he and his wife were both registered as Democrats. They lived in various homes including 2424 Palm Drive, Hermosa Beach City (1942), 128 N. Alessandro Avenue, in the area of Temple City (1946), 1811 Manhattan Avenue, Hermosa Beach City (1948 and 1950), and 961 Calle Miramar, Torrance (1954). According to his son, Clifford's passion was sailing. He started with a 14 foot daysailer, and eventually he and Maude were living on a 40 foot Ketch. In 1975 they sold the boad, and moved ashore. Clifford and his wife retired to the Morro Bay area of Central California. His last residence was Los Oso, San Luis Obispo County 93402. He died 16 Nov 1982 at UCLA Hospital of a tumor on the brain stem. His burial place is unknown. Time of Birth} |
