| Notes: Clifford Edwin Ferrell was born 18 Jul 1914 in Alhambra,Los Angeles, California. He was
the second son of Thomas J. Ferrell and Mabel Olson. His older brother Frederick was born in 1910.
In 1915, the family was living at 126 East McLean, Alhambra. His father was
the proprietor of Ferrell's Shoe Shop, repairing shoes. In 1918, the family was living at
316 North 4th Street, Alhambra. In the 1920 USA census,Clifford E., 5, was living with his parents, Thomas J. Ferrell, 34, and Mabel, 30, in the home of his maternal grandparents, Hans, 87, and Mary Olson, 64, at 336 N. Wilson Avenue, Alhambra, California. His father was a shoemaker with his own shop. | By 1923, the family was finally living
in their own home at 121 S. Granada Avenue, Alhambra, which had been purchased for them by
Mary Olson. His father, who tried his hand in insurance and later in real estate,
was not a very good businessman. Clifford attended Granada Elementary School, graduating with the mid-year class in January 1928. He went on to Alhambra High School, where he was active in student activities. These included a playlet called "Evolution of the American Flag", a 5 minute address to the First Christian Church as part of his oral English studies, and as commissioner-general of the student body in 1931 . In the 1930, U.S. census, Clifford E., 15, was living with his parents, Thomas J. Gerrell, 45, and Mabel, 40, in the family home at 121 S. Granada, Alhambra. His father was now a real estate salesman, and they owned the home valued at $6.000. His siblings were Frederick B., 19, a truck driver for a lumber company (the Olson Lumber Co., owned by Frank Olson, his mother's brother), and Charles S., 3. By 1932, Clifford was also driving for the Olson Lumber Co. Clifford's mother Mabel died in 1934. In 1936, Clifford was still living with his father and younger brother. By 1938, he had moved to 1906 Escarpa Drive, Los Angeles, close to Occidental College. At Occidental, Clifford was named an outstanding Junior, and he was elected president of the Associated Students for 1938-1939. He graduated from Occidental in 1939 with a degree in Economics. On 2 Sep 1939, Clifford E. Ferrell married Maude E. Fifer in the parsonage of the Methodist Church in Whittier. They honeymooned in Santa Barbara, California, and then made their home in Highland Park, Los Angeles. In the 1940 USA census, Clifford Ferrell, 25, and Maude. 20, were renting a home at 5740 York Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. He was working as a bank teller, earning $1,100. Maude was a secretary in a doctor's office, earning $900. Clifford Edwin Ferrell, 26, registered for the WWII draft on 16 Oct 1940. He and Maude had moved to 1567 Fair Park, Eagle Rock, Los Angeles. He was employed by the Bank of America, Eagle Rock Branch, and was described as 6 feet, 155 lbs., of light complexion, brown hair and Hazel eyes. Clifford worked most of his life for the North American Aviation Co. in El Segundo. He began as a scheduler in 1942, and retired in 1971 as head of contract pricing and negotiations. In the 1950 USA census, Clifford E. Ferrell, 35, and his wife Maude E., 30, were living at 1811 Manhattan Avenue, Hermosa Beach, Los Angeles, California. Clifford was a manufacturing analyst for an aircraft company. Their children were Joelyn L., 7, Richard E., 5, and Patricia A., 2. He was active in the community, winning a 13 prize jackpot of gifts at a Hermosa merchant event, being vice president of tthe South Bay Camera Club, and serving on the executive committee of the South Bay Area Occidental College Alumni Club. According to voter registration records, he and his wife were both registered as Democrats. They lived in various homes including 2424 Palm Drive, Hermosa Beach City (1942), 128 N. Alessandro Avenue, Temple City (1946), 1811 Manhattan Avenue, Hermosa Beach City (1948 and 1950), and 961 Calle Miramar, Torrance (1954). According to his son, Clifford's passion was sailing. He started with a 14 foot daysailer, and eventually he and Maude were living on a 40 foot Ketch, the Windsong. In April of 1971, in high winds and swells, their boat experienced engine and rigging failure offshore from Los Angeles International Airport, giving Clifford head lacerations, and they had to be towed in by a harbor patrol craft. In 1975 they sold the boat, and moved ashore, retiring in the Morro Bay area of Central California. Clifford's last residence was Los Oso, San Luis Obispo County 93402.
