Notes: Adel Thelma Fishback was born 26 Apr 1906 probably in Alhambra, California, as that is where the family residence was. Her parents were Henry Fishback and Rachel Hildebrand. She had two older brothers, Charles born in 1889, and Henry R. in 1902, and four older sisters, Minnie born in 1891, Harriett in 1893, Matilda in 1895, and Francis in 1898. Her younger sister Almira was born in 1909.

In the 1910 U.S. census, the family was living at 28 S. Electric Street, Alhambra. Her father and older brother Charles were carpenters. Her sister Minnie was a telephone operator. In 1911, her younger brother Albert was born. Her sister Francis, who had been born mentally or physically retarded, died in 1915.

In the 1920 U.S. census, only Henry R., Adel, Almira and Albert remained at home. Her father was now a building contractor. In the 1925 through 1927 Alhanbra City Directories, Adel is listed as a telephone operator for Pac Tel & Tel Co.

In the 1930 U.S. census, her parents had moved from Alhambra and were living at 581 Valmont Street in the City of Los Angeles. Only Adel, Almira and Albert were living with them. Her father in his retirement years, listed himself as a farmer. Adele is listed as a telephone operator.

Adel married James McElhaney sometime between 1930 and 1940. In 1940, the couple is listed in the voter registration records living at 3465 Downing Street, Glendale, California. Their house had been built in 1938. She was still a telephone operator, and her husband was a utility man. No children can be found for this marriage. They later moved to Northern California.

James died in 1972 in Nevada County. Adel died 24 Dec 1992 in Placer County, possibly in the local Auburn Faith Hospital. Her last residence was Cedar Ridge, Nevada County. Their burial place is unknown.
