Alma Leo had died in 1911 from bronchial pneumonia following the measles. His younger brother was Ned Stout, born in 1918.

Rolf died 28 Apr 1919 of pernicous anemia. He was buried 7 Apr 1930 in the Hinckley City Cemetery, Hinckley, Millard, Utah. He shares a headstone with his brother Alma.
