Notes: George Lawson Francis was born 17 Mar 1876 in Cornish, Sullivan, New York, to Edward Francis and Martha M. Williams. He was the oldest of seven children. In the 1880 U.S.census, George F. Francis, 4, was living with his parents, Edward Francis, 29, and Martha, 26, Cornish, Sullivan, New Hampshire. His father was a Methodist clergyman. His younger sister Gertrude was 2. Also in the household was Hepsabeth Williams, 56, his maternal grandmother.

In the 1900 U.S. census, Georgle L. Francis, 24, was living with his parents, Edward Francis, 49, and Martha M., 48, in Grafton, Grafton, New Hampshire. His father was a clergyman, and they were renting their home. George was attending school. His younger siblings were Gertrude M, 22, a school teacher; Mabel R., 19, an evangelist; Thomas R., 18, carpenter; and Susan, 15, Ann M., 9,and Henry W., 7, all in school.

George Francis and Ella Jacobus were married in 1902 in New Jersey. In the 1910 U.S. census, Geo. L. Francis, 34, and his wife Ella M., 34, were living at 182 Kimberly Ave., in New Haven, Ward 4, New Haven, Connecticut. Their three children were Ida L., 4, Gladys M., 2, and George E., 4 months. George was a railroad locomotive engineer. They owned their home with a mortgage.

George Lawson Francis, 42, registered for the World War II draft on 2 Sep 1918. His address was R.D. 2 Delhi, Meredith, Delaware, New York. He listed himself as a farmer, and was described as being of medium build and height, with blue eyes and light brown hair.

In the 1920 U.S. census, George L. Francis, 44, and Ella M., 44, were living on Main St., in the Delhi Village of the Delhi Twp. of Delaware County, New York. Their childre were Ida L., 13, Gladys M., 12, and George E., 10. Living with the family was her father, James W. Jacobus, 74, a truck chauffeur. Their home was rented, and no employment was listed for George.

In the 1928 Somerville, New Jersey City Directory, Geo. L. and Ella M. Francis, and daughter Ida, were listed at 77 N. Gaston av. George was a mechanic, Ella a bookkeeper, and Ida was a teacher.

** According to his Obituary, published on 8 October 1928 in The Central New Jersey Home News, George L. Francis, 53, died 6 October 1928 in Somerville, Somerset, New Jersey, and was buried in the New Cemetery, in Somerville. This is in conflict with Find a Grave which gives a death date of 12 Sep 1929, and burial in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Caldwell, Essex, New Jersey, with no back-up information, and no photo.
