Notes:  Elizabeth Parker was born 30 Aug 1838 in Ontario, Canada.  Her parents were John Parker and Rebecca Dunn, both born in Ireland.  One source gives her mother as Esther Westgate Parker, but her marriage record gives it as Rebecca Dunn.  Elizabeth married Alexander Detwiller 1 Nov 1859 in the Avonbank Presbyterian Church, Downie Twp., Perth.
In the 1861 Canada census, Elizabeth and Alexander were living on their farm in a log house.  Alexander was a farmer.  In the 1871 Canada census, Fullarton Twp., six children were listed, namely Rebecca Dunn, born in 1860, Marion, 1862, Christopher, 1863, Elizabeth, 1865, John, 1867, and Alexander, 1879.  A daughter Bertha had died as an infant in 1869, and Christopher was to die in 1876.

By the 1881 Canada census, four more children had been added to the family, namely Annie, born in 1873, William, 1875, James, 1876, and Isabella, 1878.  By 1885, the family was complete, with the addition of Innis, born in 1883, and Robert, 1885.

Alexander suffered from a liver disease for three years, and died 17 Sep 1887 of a kidney abscess.  He is buried in the Avonbank Presbyterian Cemetery, Downie Twp., Perth, Ontario.  After the death of her husband, Elizabeth moved into the town of Mitchell, Perth South.  In the 1891 Canada census, she was living in Mitchell with four of her children, Marion, Isabella, Innis and Robert.  Marion was a dressmaker.  By the 1901 Canada census, at age 62, Elizabeth was living alone.

Click to enlarge In the 1916 Manitoba census, at age 77, Elizabeth was living with her daughter Annie and husband David Harvey in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.  David was a farmer and they had two children, William, age 4, and Robert, age 2 years.  Also living with the family was Elizabeth Wilson, another daughter of Elizabeth, who was also now widowed.

Elizabeth died 14 Jun 1917 in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.  One source gives a death date of 4 Jun 1916 in Ontario, but at that time she was living in Manitoba.  Her headstone gives a death date of 1917.  She is buried with her husband and two of their young children in the Avonbank Presbyterian Cemetery, Downie Twp., Perth, Ontario.  Their headstone is pictured at left.
