In the 1915 North Dakota census, they were living on their own farm in Tyrol Twp., Griggs, about 6 miles north of Cooperstown. Her father was a grain farmer, and also raised stock. The census included Wallace Irving, born in 1910, and Kenneth Raymond, 1912. In the 1920 U.S. census, the family was complete, with Lawrence Everett, born in 1917.

Erma married Robert Leonard Pratt on 10 Oct 1928 in Cooperstown, Griggs, North Dakota. In the 1930 U.S. census, they were living in Mapleton Village, Cass, North Dakota. Robert was a mechanic in a garage. They moved to Medina Village, Stutsman, North Dakota. In the 1940 U.S. census, Robert was an operator, working at home. They had three children, Robert, Audrey, and Gordon.
