Notes: Hannah Maria Haley was born 15 Feb 1875*, probably in Logan Twp., Ottawa, Kansas. She was the fifth of twelve children of Abraham Haley and Marion Detwiller. She was known as Hattie. Rose's older siblings, Nicholas James, William Henry, and Marion Agnes (Minnie) had been born in Ontario, Canada. Her father was a farmer, and in late 1870, the family moved to Kansas, settling on a homestead in Logan Township, Ottawa County, eight miles northeast of Minneapolis. Hattie's older sister Rose had been born in Kansas in 1873. Her younger sister Elizabeth Jane was born in 1877. Then unfortunately the next children in the family died within days or a year of birth. These included an unnamed infant, her sister Susan May, and her brother John Alexander. Hannah herself died 2 Dec 1881*, not quite seven years old. She is buried with her brother and sisters in the Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis, Kansas.

*The dates of Hannah's birth and death on her headstone, and in some family notes are 1874 - 1880. This is not correct. The cemetery records are 1875 - 1881. Additionally, in the Kansas census taken in the spring of 1875, she is 2 months old, verifying a birthdate of 15 Feb 1875.
