Notes: Thaddia Lillal Waylan was born 6 May 1919 in Lost Springs, Marion, Kansas, Her parents were Claude E. Waylan and Jennie B. Sampson. Her family is not found in the 1920 U.S. census. In the 1925 Kansas State census, the family was living in Minneapolis, Ottawa, Kansas. Her father was a salesman. Her older brothers were Melvin, 16, Waldine, 15, and Forrest, 12.

In the 1930 U.S. census, Thaddia's family was living at 705 Rothsay Avenue, Minneapolis, Kansas. Her father Claude was a traveling salesman. Waldene, 20, was an auto mechanic, and her Forrest, 17, and Thaddia, 10, were in school. Living with the family was her uncle, Paul E. Waylan, 25, manager of a Cheverolet garage.

Thaddia married Gale Garrison when she was 16 years old. In the 1940 U.S. census, she and Gale were living in Sheridan Twp., Ottawa, Kansas. Gale was a farmer, farming on his own account. Their children were Sandra, 3, and Deanna 1. Living with the family was his mother, Amanda Garrison. A son Gale was born after the census. Her husband Gale died in 1962.

Thaddia married Lester Lavern Smith sometime after 1966, after the death of his first wife Jennie. In 1971, Thaddia was a reporter for the Delphos Republic when she reported on the "Delphos Kansas UFO Landing Ring".

Thaddia's husband Lester died 11 Apr 1986. In 1993, Thaddia made her home at 108 N. Custer Street, Delphos, Kansas. Thaddia died 17 Feb 2009 at the Good Samaritan Society, Minneapolis, Kansas. She is buried in the Delphos Cemetery, Delphos, Ottawa, Kansas.
