Notes:  Russell Leon Rawson was born 14 Dec 1895 in Huntsville, Illinois.  His father died sometime before 1900, and his given name is unknown.  His mother was Anna or Annie Johnson.  Russell had an older brother, Alvin, who was born in 1894.
In the 1900 U.S. census, Russel's family was living with his uncle William Johnson, his mother's brother, in Pea Ridge Twp., Brown County, Illinois.  By the 1910 U.S. census, the family had moved to California, and was living in Santa Rosa Twp., Sonoma County.  Russell was 15 years old, Alvin 17 years old, and their mother was not working.  However, they lived next door to a family with the Johnson surname.  Possibly is was a relative.

In 1917, when Russell registered for the World War draft, he and his mother were living at 406 N. Garfield Avenue in Alhambra, California.  He was a sheet metal worker, working for the American Steel Pipe and Tank Co. on the western end of Alhambra.  He was described as tall and of slender build, with blue eyes and light brown hair.

Russell married Mathilda Fishback on 24 Dec 1918 In Los Angeles County, California.  She was from a pioneer family in Alhambra.  In the 1920 U.S. census, they were living at 221½ S. Raymond Avenue in Alhambra.  They shared the rear house with another couple, Glen and Mini Morgan.  Their daughter was born in 1921, and by 1926 they had moved to a house in Rosemead, California.  The address was originally 1828 Guess Street, but between 1950 and 1954 it was changed to 9234 E. Guess Street.  In the 1930 U.S. census, their daughter was 9 years old, and Russell was a mechanic for the steel company.  As seen in the city directories, by 1937 Russell was a foreman, and by 1949 was the assistant plant supervisor.  Russell was a Democrat and is listed in the voting registers from 1924 through 1960.

In the 1940 U.S. census, Russell and Martha were still living on Guess Street.  They owned the home, valued at $4,000.  Russel had earned $2,576 in 1939, and had an eighth grade education.

Russell died 27 Jul 1982, his last residence being Rosemead.  Matilda died 2 Sep 1985.  Both are buried in Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier, California.
