Notes: Vera Dorothy Down was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan about 1909. Her parents were John Down and Bertha Louisa Tucker. In the 1911 Canada Census, the family was living in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Her father John was a farmer, and the family was identified as Methodist.

In the 1916 Canada census of Alberta, her family was identified as living in the Golden Centre Municipality, Twp. 29, Range, 6, Meridian 4, of Medicine Hat, Alberta. Her father was farming on his own account.

Vera and her parents immigrated to the United States in 1925. Her father John crossed into the United States on 21 Nov 1925 at Eastport, Idaho, destination Walnut Creek, California, as a permanent immigrant. Vera and her mother Bertha followed on 18 Dec 1925. Vera was 16, a student, and described as being 5ft. 4in., medium complexion with brown hair and brown eyes.

At some time,the family returned to Canada. Her father John died in 1944 and mother Bertha in 1957. They are buried in the Olds Cemetery, Olds, Calgary Census Division, Alberta, Canada.

Vera married Harvey Melvin Strome some time before 1945. In 1945, they are listed in the Canada Voters Lists in Red Deer, Alberta. Harvey was a farmer. His brother Wilford and his wife are also listed in Red Deer. In 1949, Vera and Harvey are listed at 1118 Hillside Ave., Calgary, Alberta. Harvey was a carpenter. In 1953, their residence is listed as 1538 Hillside, Calgary. In 1957 through 1974, their address is 530 35A Street NW, Calgary, Alberta. Harvey is listed variously as a carpenter, contractor, or builder, and finally in 1968, he is listed as retired.

It is unknown when either Vera or Harvey died, and their burial place is unknown.
