Notes:  Johan Peder Johansen was born 27 Jul 1883 in Søllested, Båg, Odense, Denmark.  He was the second child of thirteen, born to Hans Johansen & Maren Rasmusdatter.  He had an older half sister, Dorthea Hansen.  Johan Peder appears in the 1890 and 1901 Danish census records with his family in Søllested.  Johan Peder was confirmed 3 Oct 1897 in the Søllested Kirke.

In 1904, Johan Peder and his sister Frederikke Margrete traveled by way of Liverpool, England, aboard the S.S. Carpathis to the United States.  They arrived in New York on 2 Sep 1904.  Their destination was Perth Amboy, New Jersey, where their half-sister Dorthea Hansen was living with her husband Christian Møller.  His sister Rasmine may have followed in 1907.

Nothing more is known about Johan Peder until he is living in Texas with his wife Ida Matilda Hagburg, an immigrant from Sweden.  They made their home in Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas, where they raised their three sons, and had a successful florist business (founded in 1923).  Johan went by the name John Peter Johnsen, and was known as Peter.

Their first son Carl Peter was born in 1914 Dallas County, Texas.  Walter Ejner was born in 1916, also in Dallas County.  On 12 Sep 1918, when Johan registered for the World War I draft, the family was living at 2395 Colliers Ferry Road, Jefferson County, Beaumont, Texas.  Johan was described as 5'2" (short), slender build, with blue eyes, light brown hair.  He was a florist for the Beaumont Floral Company, located in the Tivoli Theater Building.  Their third son, Edwin Alfred was born in 1919, in Jefferson County.

In the 1920 USA census, the family was renting at 2395 Grand Avenue, Beaumont.  Peter was a florist in a greenhouse.  In the 1930 USA census, the family was living at 1594 Easy Street, Beaumont.  Peter owned the residence, and was now a naturalized citizen, and the owner of a florist business.    In the 1940 USA census, the family was still at 1594 Easy Street, and his three sons, now ages 26, 24, and 21, were all working as florists in the business.

The Beaumont, Texas, City Directory for the years 1952 through 1960, listed the Johnsen's Wholesale & Retail Florists, Inc. with locations at 2190 Avenue A, and in the Beaumont Hotel at 393 Fannin.  Peter and Ida now lived at 2920 Lakeview Circle, Beaumont.

Peter died 9 Sep 1962 in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Beaumont, Texas.  Cause of death was acute coronary occlusion due to arteriosclerotic heart disease, and due to a ruptured duodenal ulcer.  At the time of his death, his residence was 2720 Lakeview Circle, Beaumont, and he was President of Johnsen's Florist.  He was buried 10 Sep 1962 in the Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont, Texas.
