Notes: Walter Ejner Johnsen was born 9 Mar 1916 in Dallas, Dallas, Texas. He was the second of three sons born to Peter Johnsen and Ida Matilda Hagberg. According to the Affidavit correcting his original birth certificate, the family was living on Second Avenue, Dallas, and his father was a greenhouse employee or gardner. His older brother Carl was born in 1914 in Dallas County. By 1918 the family was living at 2395 Colliers Ferry Road, Jefferson County, Beaumont, Texas. His brother Edwin was born in 1919 in Jefferson County.

In the 1920 U.S. census, Walter's family was renting at 2395 Grand Avenue, Beaumont. His father Peter was a florist in a greenhouse. In the 1930 U.S. census, the family was living at 1594 Easy Street, Beaumont, and all three brothers were in school. Carl completed the 12th grade. His father was the owner of a florist business. In the 1940 U.S. census, Walter was now 24 years old, and he and his brothers were all working as florists in the family business.

Walter enlisted in the U.S. Army on 17 Jun 1942. He was single, without dependents, 70" high, weighed 146 pounds, had 4 years of high school, and was a decorator and window dresser.

Sometime before 1952, Walter married Helen Ray Dunshie. It is not known if they had any children. Helen was manager of the Johnsen's Hotel Beaumont Flower Shop. Their residence was at 1466 Emma, Beaumont.

The Beaumont, Texas, City Directory for the years 1952 through 1960, listed the various members of the Johnsen family and their business locations. Johnsen's Wholesale & Retail Florists, Inc. had locations at 2190 Avenue A, and in the Beaumont Hotel at 393 Fannin. Peter was President, Carl P. was Vice-President, Edwin A., Secretary. and Walter E., Treasurer.

Walter had other Beaumont addresses through the years, including 131 E. Caldwood Dr., 1215 Longfellow Dr. (1993), and 4445 Thomas Ct, Beaumont.

Walter died 30 Sep 1999 in Beaumont, at the age of 83. His obituary was published in the Beaumont Enterprise on 1 Oct 1999. He is buried in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont, TX
