Notes:  Frederick Gordon Neilsen was born 24 May 1914 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey.  His parents were Nels Oscar Neilson and Margaret Johansen.  His older sister Lillian Elizabeth was born in 1912, and younger sister Helen Mildred in 1917.  When his father Nels registered for the World War I draft in 1918, the family was living at 207 Grant Street, Perth Amboy, New Jersey.

In the 1920 U.S. census,Fred's family was renting a residence at 199 Grant Street, Perth Amboy, New Jersey.  His father was an insurance agent.  His sister Cecilia Faith was born in 1923, and sister Ruth Margaret in 1924.  In 1927, the family was living at 444 Steadman Place, Perth Amboy.

In the 1930 U.S. census, Fred's family was living at 556 New Brunswick Avenue, Perth Amboy, New Jersey.  His father was a shipping clerk for the local chemical works.  His sister Lillian was 18 years old and working as a librarian.  Fred and his younger brothers and sisters were in school.  In the 1935 Perth Amboy, New Jersey, City Directory, the family was living at 429 Lawton Place, Perth Amboy.  His father was listed as a clerk, Lillian was a librarian, and Fred was working as a clerk.

Fred moved west.  In 1938, he was registered to vote as a Rebpublican, living at 1815 Vine Street., Alhambra, California.  He was a laborer.  He married Marjorie McNeil on 21 Sep 1939 in the Grace Lutheran Church, Pasadena, Los Angeles California.

In the 1940 U.S. census, Fred and Marjorie were living with her parents, John and Clara McNeil, at 2085 North Fair Oaks, Pasadena, California.  Fred was a workman for a paint manufacturing company, and had completed four years of high school.  Shortly after, they made their home at 146 W. Palm Avenue, Alhambra.  In 1943, they were living at 42 W. Palm Avenue.

By 1946, Fred and Marjorie were living at 1418 Sunset Avenue, Pasadena.  Fred became a printer, and had his own printing business, named The Neilson Press, located at 50½ S. Catalina Avenue, Pasadena.  In 1948, his mother-in-law, Clara McNeil, was living with them.  In 1949, his sister Cecelia Neilson, a clerk for the business, was living with them.  By 1953, Fred and Marjorie had moved to 1320 N. Fair Oaks, Pasadena.

Fred died 31 Jan 1978 in Covina, California.  He is buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park (Covina Hills), Covina, California.
