Notes: According to family sources, Nels Oscar Neilson married Margaret Johansen on 28 Jan 1911 in Brooklyn, New York. He was from Norway, and she was from Denmark. Both were naturalized citizens. Their first child Lillian Elizabeth, was born 18 Sep 1912. Fred Gordon was born 24 May 1914, and Helen Mildred on 28 Sep 1917. When Nels registered for the World War I draft in 1918, the family was living at 207 Grant Street, Perth Amboy, New Jersey.

In the 1920 USA census, Nels and Margaret were renting a residence at 199 Grant Street, Perth Amboy, New Jersey. Nels was an insurance agent. Cecilia Faith was born 27 May 1923, and Ruth Margaret on 12 Jun 1924. In 1927, the family was living at 444 Steadman Place, Perth Amboy.

In the 1930 USA census, Margaret and Nels were living at 556 New Brunswick Avenue, Perth Amboy, New Jersey. They were renting for $27.00 monthly. Nels was a shipping clerk for the local chemical works. Their oldest child, Lillian, was working as a librarian. The others, Frederick, Helen, Cecelia, and Ruth, were in school. In 1935, Nels and Margaret were living at 429 Lawton Place, Perth Amboy. Nels was a clerk, Lillian a librarian, and Fred was a clerk.

By 1940, Nels and Margaret were living apart. In the 1940 USA census, Margaret was living with her daughter Lillian and Lillian's husband, Hildour Nelson, at 455 Lawrie Street, Perth Amboy. Her daughters Cecilia and Ruth were living in the household.

In 1942 when Nels registered for the World War II draft, his address was 182 Jefferson Street, Perth Amboy. He was working for Hayden Chemical Company in Fords, Middlesex, New Jersey. His wife was living at 400 E. Avenue, Perth Amboy. Nothing further is known about Nels. Margaret moved to California, where two of their children were living.
