Sudden Death of Josie Olson.  Undated newspaper clipping from Olson/Noble memorabilia.  Death date of Josephine Olson was 6 May 1920, Alhambra, California.

"The many friends of Miss Josie Olson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Olson, were deeply pained and surprised on Tuesday morning to hear of her death, which occurred about 5 a.m. of that day.  It was known that she was not well, having left her school at Charter Oak on that account last week, but nothing serious was expected.  She appeared to be improving until a very short time before she died.  Her heart was affected and this was the cause of death.  She had overworked in her capacity as school teacher and had been most successful in bringing up her school at Charter Oak to a proper standard.  It is a great pity her promising life work is ended so early.
Josephine Sophia Olson was 25 years of age and a native of Nevada.  She has resided with her parents in Alhambra for a number of years and has been a bright and popular member of the younger society.  She was also a member of the Presbyterian Church in Alhambra.  She leaves her grief stricken parents, three sisters and three brothers and many friends to mourn her sudden death.
The deceased was a member of Alhambra Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star and much interested in that beautiful Order.  Therefore it was deemed proper that the funeral be held under its auspices.  Services were held at the residence Thursday at 2 p.m., Rev. V. Bazata officiating, assisted by Rev. T. N. Lord, both of whom are members of the Eastern Star.  Two beautiful duets were sung by Miss Jennie Bazata and Mrs. James McLaren.  The appropriate sermon by Rev. Bazata was followed by a most eloquent prayer by Rev. Lord, who made reference to the Star in the East, which still shines and should guide all to the Savior.  The floral offerings were most profuse and some of them elaborate, including a beautiful five pointed star, the points of which were emblematic of the Eastern Star, a lovely pillow of white sweet peas and maiden hair fern bearing the given name of deceased, crosses and banks of white roses, sweet peas, etc.  The white casket embowered with the beautiful flowers, seemed an appropriate resting place for the dear departed.  The pall bearers were Dr. M.S. Charles, D.C. Mulock, B.B. Cartwright, Roscoe Behlow, Howard Winsor, Dura Blackburn.  The attendance was very large and the funeral cortege the longest we have seen in Alhambra.
At the cemetery, the beautiful and impressive funeral ceremonies of the Eastern Star were conducted by the officers of the Alhambra Chapter, assisted by the members.  The funeral directors were Ives & Warren, of Pasadena.
