Mr. Bunker was born in Ogden, December 1, 1881, a son of Edward Bunker, who founded Bunkerville. He lived in the town of Hot Springs for a number of years and founded the town of Veyo. He married Catherine W. Norfors in April 1899, in Sevier county, and the couple devoted much of their time to L. D. S. church work. Surviving are his widow and three grandchildren. An obituary from an unknown newspaper, part of which is cited herein: James Bunker, Dixie pioneer, died in his home last Sunday evening, November 9, while listening to his radio. His wife was in the room at the time and was unaware of his passing at the time. The physician who examined him state that death must have been instintaneous. He died at approximately 8:30 p. m. Funeral services were held in the St. George stake Tabernacle at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon with Milton Bowier of the Veyo ward bishopric conducting. [Here follows many tributes that were given.] James Bunker was born DEcember 1, 1861 at Ogden, a son of Edward and Sarah A. Browning Bunker. He came with his parents when just a small boy to Toquerville, where they lived for one year. They were then called to Santa Clara where Mr. Bunker presided as first Bishop of the Santa Clara Ward. He went with his parents to Bunkerville where they made their home for some time, later going to Annabella where he met Miss Kate Nordfors to whom he was married in the Manti Temple in April 1889. To this couple two children were born, both of whom passed away at an early age. They later adopted a boy. Mr. Bunker served as a counselor to the Bishop of the Annabella ward for two years. They lived at the Bigelow ranch for five years and was a counselor to Bishop Holt of Gunlock for ten years. They were called to the St. George Temple and filled a two-year mission from 1909 to 1911. In 1913 they moved to the place which is now Veyo. They were the only family there for some time and later others moved in who helped with the Veyo ditch which was then started. They moved to St. George four years ago. Besides his wife and son he is survived by the following brothers and sisters: William E. Bunker, Manti; clifton T. Bunker, Delta; D. A. Bunker and Mrs. Della Lisondbee, Long Beach, California; Martin, John and Robert of Las Vegas; Ezra, Francis and Mrs. Mary Cox, Salt Lake City; Hector Bunker, Bunkerville; Silas Bunker, Arizona; and Viola Earl of Overton, Nevada. | ||||
