Notes:  Mary Ann Logan was born 3 Aug 1818 probably in Pennsylvania.  Her parents were Joseph Logan and Frances Craven, who had been married in Pennsylvania.  Mary was reportedly 1/2 Cherokee, but there is no evidence to support this.  She had an older sister, Margaret Craven Logan.

In the 1820 U.S. census, Joseph Logan was living in Point, Northumberland, Pennsylvania.  By age, the census records two adults over 25 (Joseph and Frances), and two females under 10 (Margaret and Mary).  Her mother died in 1921 and her father married Elizabeth Smith that same year in Ohio.  Nine children were born of this union, half-siblings to Mary.

In the 1830 U.S. census, Joseph Logan was living in Reily Twp., Butler, Ohio.  By age, the census records the two adults 20 thru 49 (Joseph and Elizabeth), one female 15 thru 19 (Margaret Craven), one female 10 thru 14 (Mary), three males 5 thru 9 (Samuel, James Smith, and Thomas S.) and two males under 5 (John and William).  In the 1849 U.S. census, the Joseph Logan family is found enumerated in Jamestown, Wells, Indiana.

After a two year courtship, Mary A. Logan married Hiram Jackson on 16 Aug 1838 in Wells County, Indiana.  Twelve children were born of this union.  In the 1840 U.S. census, Hiram Jackson is enumerated living in Wells County (26 North of Range 11 East), Indiana.  By age, the census records one white male over 20 (Hiram) in agriculture, one white female over 20 (Mary), and one white female under 5 years (Elizabeth).

In the 1850 U.S. census, Mary Jackson, 32, and her husband Hiram, 33, were living in Liberty Township, Wells, Indiana.  Hiram was a farmer and their real estate was valued at $2,000.  Their children were Samuel, 8, Maryann, 6, Margaret 3, and Joseph L., 1.

In the 1860 U.S. census, Mary A. Jackson, 41, and Hiram, 42, were living in Liberty Twp., Wells, Post Office Bluffton.  Hiram, a farmer, had real estate valued at $3,500. and personal property valued at $700.  Their children were Samuel, 17, Mary A., 16, Margaret, 13, Joseph, 11, Nancy, 8, Hiram, 4, and Martha, 1.  Hiram Jackson fought on the Union side of the Civil War, in the 97th Regiment, Ohio Infantry, and was away from the family from Aug 1862 through Jun 1865.

In the 1870 U.S census, Mary Jackson, 52, keeping house, and Hiram, 53, farmer, were still in Liberty Twp., Wells, Post Office Bluffton.  Their real estate was valued at $5,000. and personal property valued at $1,250.  Their children at home were Margaret, 23, Hiram, 14, farmer, Martha, 12, and George W. 8.

Mary Ann Jackson died 27 Apr 1872 in Liberty Twp., Wells, Indiana.  Cause of death may have been tuberculosis.  She is buried in the McFarren Cemeterty, Bluffton, Wells, Indiana.
