| Notes: Esther Rose Howard was born 30 Jan 1902* in Columbia, King, Washington. She was one of
seven children of Charles Robert Howard and Alice Elizabeth Smith. In the 1910 U.S. census,
She was living with her family at 8B Melrose Street, Walla Walla Ward 3, Wala Walla, Washington.
Her father was an insurance agent, and they were renting their home. The children were
Margaret A., 16, Ruth A., 13, Eva, 11, Mildred M., 9, Ester R. , 8, and William R., 6.
All the children attended school. In the 1920 U.S. census, the family was living in a rented home at 823 W. Cleveland Avenue, Spokane, Spokane, Washington. Her father was a minister, preaching. The children at home were Eva, 20, Mildred, 19, Esther, 17, Ross, 16, and Dorothy, 6. Esther 18, married Doran V. McNeilly, 20, on 18 Jan 1921 in Portland, Multnomah, Oregon. She was a stenographer, and he was a mechanic. In 1927, they were living at 1105 Divisadero, Fresno, California. She was a clerk for the Cal State Auto Assn., and he was a salesman. They had one daughter, Norma Jean McNeilly, born 8 Dec 1927 in Fresno. In the 1930 U.S. census, Esther, 28, and Doran V., 30, were living at 531 N. Strand, in Oceanside, San Diego, California. Doran was an automobile salesman. Norma J. was two years. In the 1940 U.S. census, Esther, 38, and Doran 40, were living at 1387 Roosevelt, Fresno. Esther was a stenographer, and Doran was still selling automobiles. Norma was twelve years. Living with them were her sister, Eva White, 40, and husband, Carter R. White, 40, a refrigeration engineer, and their children Howard, 18, and Betty Lou, 13. In the 1950 U.S. census, Esther, 48, and Doran V., 50, were living at 2021 Wilson, Fresno. She was a secretary for a cotton broker, and he was a district attorney investigator. Doran died of a heart attack on 17 Apr 1959. At the time they were living at 3462 E. Brown Street, Fresno. He had been with the district attorney's office for ten years investigating check fraud, and previously had been a deputy sherriff for five years. Esther McNeilly, 77, married David Theodore Williams, 72, on 3 Oct 1979, in Mendociono, California. A Presbyterian pastor performed the ceremony. Esther was a secretary for Senior Citizens Center, and David was a merchant marine radio operator. They had been next door neighbors on Casa Del Noya Drive in Fort Bragg, California. They lived at 840 Myrtle, Fort Bragg. David Theodore Williams, 77, died 18 Apr 1984 in the Mendocino Coast Hospital, Fort Bragg, California. His ashes were buried at sea.
