King George V Notes:  On 12 May 1916, James and his wife Fannie were living at Richdale, Alberta, Canada.  On that date he enlisted and became a private in the Army, 50th Bn, Canadian Infantry (Alberta Regiment) of the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) in WWI.  He was 5' 7" tall and had a medium complexion, blue eyes, and black hair.  As with all recruits, James swore allegiance to His Majesty King George the Fifth.

James was killed in action 13½ months later — in 1917.  The 50th battalion was assigned to France.  James was buried in grave D.502 at Hoylake Churchyard, Cheshire, England.
