"Rev. Thomas Hancock and wife, Mrs. Mary Hancock, were united in holy matrimony fifty years ago Monday, March 7, and to celebrate the occasion nearly a hundred neighbors and friends, and relatives gathered to pay their respects and love with tokens of esteem and regard.

The sons and daughters from abroad were:  Frank Hancock, El Granada, California,Mrs. J. A. Jones, Alberta, Canada, Mrs. G. H. Pendleton, Santa Cruz, California, James Hancock, Toronto, Canada, Mrs. Mary Shilling, Sacramento, California, Walter Hancock, London, England.  The other sons, George and William, were unable to be present on account of business, but will come later.  There were also several of the grand-children present.

The sons and daughters presented their parents with a purse of gold ($50 accompanied by a memorial wrought in hand work of golden letters.  The neighbors and friends also presented the couple with a purse of gold $60) which was presented by E. W. Cole in a neat little speach, after which he read the lines of a short poem written by himself for the occasion.

Besides the purses there were many elegant presents among them an elegant oak rocker, a gift from Dr. Case, two gold clocks, a solid gold thimble, gold lined silver, gold trimmed china, gold band gift books and many other beautiful things.

Dr. Case read the original marriage certificate, also recited 'Joe Anderson My Joe, John,' and another appropriate poem.

Rev. and Mrs. Hancock both responded to the speeches in their usual pleasing manner.

A most delicious luncheon was served.

The decorations were well worth mentioning.  The main porch and parlor were perfect bowers of gold and green, and one table was set off with fifty callalilies, brought from El Granada, and another with the beautiful camellias.

Many were the congratulations, good wishes and speaches of cheer."
