Notes:  *George's birth year is not certain because of the following:
  • His age in the 1871 English census indicates a calculated birth year of 1867 or 1868.
  • His age in the 1873 passenger list indicates a calculated birth year of 1867 or 1868.
  • His age in the 1891 Canadian census indicates a calculated birth year of 1869; however, this is unlikely since his younger brother Frank was born in December 1869.
  • The 1901 Canadian census gives his birth year as 1866; however, the year 1866 is essentially impossible since (1) his parents married in 1866, and (2) his older brother Henry was most probably born in 1867.
  • Cemetery records give his birth year as 1867.
Conclusion:  1867 is the most likely year of George's birth.

At the age of 5, George left England with his parents and siblings on the S.S. Arragon and arrived in New York on 9 May 1873.

George married in May 1889 and remained married to Mary for the rest of his life.  He was living in Bosanquet Township, Ontario, in 1891.

George and his family had moved to Strathroy, Ontario, by 1902.

George did not come to California for his parents' 50th wedding anniversary party in March 1916, but later did come to California to visit — according to Leola Hancock.

George is buried in Section F, Row 8, Stn. 1 at the Strathroy Municipal cemetery with his wife and four children.
