Notes:  Walter Oliver Hancock was born 28 Jul 1885 in Bosanquet, Lampton, Ontario.  He was the youngest of ten children of Thomas Hancock and Mary Anne Howells.  Walter spent his childhood on his parents' farm in Bosanquet and attended school in that township.
In the 1891 CAN census, Walter, 5, was living with his parents, Thomas Hancock, 49, and Mary A., 47, in Bosanquet, Lampton East, Ontario.  His father was a farmer, and the family were members of the Salvation Army.  His siblings at home were Frank, 21, and William, 16, both farmers, and Nelley, 14, Maud, 12, James, 10, and Mary 8.

Walter's parents sold their farm in 1896, purchased a farm in the Maywood Colony near Corning, Tehama, California, and immigrated to the U.S. in 1900.  On 28 Aug 1903, Walter O. Hancock, as a resident of Corning, purchased a 5 acre lot in the Maywood Colony for $200.  At some point, Walter returned to Canada, and on 1 Feb 1909, when he sold that lot to his father, he was a resident of the City of London, Ontario.

Walter married Mabel Culley about 1906 in St. Thomas, Elgin, Ontario.  In the 1911 CAN census, Walter, 25, and his wife Mabel, 26, were living at 15 Rathgar St., London City*, Ontario.  He was a motorman, with earnings of $600.  The family was Methodist.  They had two children, Etta, 3, and Chester, 1.  Their lodgers were Ethel Culley, 34, and Lena Culley, 22, sisters of Mabel.

In March 1916, Walter visited Corning, California to celebrate the 50th Wedding Anniversary of his parents, Thomas and Mary Anne Hancock.  The first two photos show Walter with his parents and siblings.  The third shows Walter with some of his siblings and his nephew Ralph Culley.

In the 1921 CAN census, Walter Hancock, 33, (transcribed as W. L. Heacock), and his wife Mabel, 36, were living at 77 Beaconfield, City of London*, Ontario.  They were members of the Church of England.  Their children were Etta, 13, Chester, 11, and Alberta, 9.

In the 1931 CAN census, Walter Hancock, 45, and his wife Mabel, 46, were still living at 77 Beaconfield, City of London*, Ontario.  Walter was a motorman, with income of $1,200.  They owned their home, valued at $4,000, which was made of brick veneer with 6 rooms, and had a radio. They were members of the United Church.  The children still at home were Chester, 22, and Alberta 19.

In the 1935 List of Electors, Walter Hancock, an operator, is listed at 77 Beaconsfield, City of London*, along with his wife, Mrs. Walter Hancock, a married woman, his daughter Miss Alberta Hancock, a saleslady, and her husband John Ireland, a service man.  In the 1938 list of electors, same address, Walter O. Hancock is listed as a bus driver, along with his wife, Mrs. Walter O. Hancock, and their son Chester L. Hancock, a national defence clerk.

Walter Oliver Hancock died in 1965, and was buried in the Woodland Cemetery, London, Middlesex, Ontario.  His wife had predeceased him in 1962.
